Site of the first Jewish service in Cape Town

The first Jewish service in Cape Town was held here in Helmsley Place, home of Benjamin Norden, on the Day of Atonement 26 September 1841 (5602), leading shortly afterwards to the founding of the first Hebrew congregation in South Africa. The building was later extensively altered and incorporated into the Mount Nelson Hotel.
